This is Part 1 in a Series.

As an amateur golfer, you are more than likely going to know that golf can be a rather tiring game. While many people see it as a relaxing and slow sport, when you actually stop and think about what is involved with the game, you soon start to realize that there is quite a bit more to it than simply just taking a swing and hitting the ball.

Think about it: you have to take a swing, hit the ball and then you have to go and get it. Now depending upon how far you have managed to hit the ball, this can be quite a trek! There may be carts available to help you, but most of the time golfers have to walk quite a distance even with the carts available. This means that you can quickly become tired and that can then start to affect the way that you play. So if you want to really improve your game, you have to first improve your golf fitness.

What Golf Fitness Entails

When it comes to preparing the body for golf, there are some specially designed exercises that you can do. Now while it is always good to be as fit as possible by doing as much exercise as possible, if you do not do the right exercises then it will not help your golfing game. This is because you need to focus upon certain parts of the body and ideally you should get a professional evaluation to see exactly which areas you need to improve upon.

However it all depends upon how dedicated you are to the sport. So you need to decide whether you just want to relax and enjoy the sport, or whether you would like to improve to a professional level instead.

Generally golf fitness includes:

Realizing your current weaknesses

Learning to prepare before a round

Improving coordination and flexibility

A proper diet

By improving all of the above, you should start to see the positive results fairly quickly. No golfer has ever got to where they are now without putting in the extra effort. So if you want to improve your game then you need to be willing to pull out all of the stops and get your fitness in top condition.

Next: Finding Out Your Weaknesses

Some products just make sense. One of our sponsors, Granite Transformations of West Berlin, offers one of these products. Instead of spending your money on an entire slab of granite to replace your countertops, they fabricate a beautiful granite overlay that fits on top of your existing countertop.

Here’s a nice video featuring one of their many happy customers:

Why would you ever spend (waste?) money on a solid slab of granite when you can get the same great look, feel, and durability with Granite Transformations. Especially when the product comes with a lifetime warranty!

Here’s another short video on their manufacturing process. Very impressive.

When Tiger approached the 18th green at Bay Hill on Sunday, there was no doubt in my mind that he would sink his 25-footer for a birdie and his 6th straight tournament win. Well, maybe just a bit of doubt. I mean, it was 25 feet! I can’t remember the last time I sunk a 25-footer - or saw one of my playing partners sink one. Obviously, it happens more often on the tour, but it is still a feat. Even Tiger was 0 for 21 on putts of 20 or more feet going to the 72nd hole.

Tiger, who is putting on a historic display of dominance at the start of the 2008 PGA Tour season, was immune to the pressure and made the putt.

Bart Bryant, who would have tied Tiger if the putt was missed, was in the the scoring trailer as Tiger was approaching the 18th green. If it was any other player on tour - any other human - Bryant would have to like his chances of a playoff. But he had to be thinking the same thing I was: It’s going in.

PGA Tour player Tripp Isenhour was recently charged with killing a hawk with a golf shot because it was making noise as he videotaped a TV show at Grand Cypress Golf Course in Orlando, Florida. Apparently, the hawk perched on a tree and started squawking near where Isenhour was taping, preventing completion of the shoot, which took place in December, 2007.

Isenhour decided the easiest and most effective solution to his problem would be to shoot golf balls at the red-shouldered hawk, a migratory species that is protected in Florida.

After coming close a few times, he struck the bird, knocking it from the tree and killing it.

Witnesses said he took multiple shots, even pausing for a bit, before the kill shot. After, Isenhour stated he was an “animal lover” and felt bad about the incident.

I’ve made some bad judgements in my life, for sure, but most of them were made in my teens. I’m amazed that the 39-year old Isenhour didn’t come to his senses after the first few shots and figure a better course of action.
